Dorking is a market town in Surrey with a population of over 11,000 sited between Leith Hill in the Greensand Ridge and Ranmore Common in the North Downs.
During the Georgian and Victorian periods six large sites within the former parish boundaries of Dorking were turned into grandiose country estates: Leith Hill, Norbury Park, Denbies (which is now a vineyard and hotel) Polesdaen Lacey, Wolton House and Deepdene. Five of these estates now belong to the National Trust.
Dorking is a commuter and retirement settlement. It boasts three railway stations and is also home to the offices of multinational companies.
